The Program

Sergei Prokofiev – Andantino from Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 19

Sofia Schutte, violin

Grand Prize Winner of the Minnesota String and Orchestra Teachers Association Mary West Solo Competition

Gustav Mahler – Symphony No. 5 in C# minor

There are certain works in the orchestral repertory that are hallmarks of accomplishment for any orchestra, and Mahler’s Fifth Symphony in C# minor is chief among them. A somber trumpet call begins the proceedings that eventually give way to a Viennese Waltz, a sweet Adagietto, and a merry fugue that brings the grand symphony to a triumphant close. There are immense technical challenges, musical heights to scale, and some moments of unrivaled tenderness to challenge your favorite orchestra.

We will also feature Sofia Schutte, grand prize winner of the MNSOTA Mary West Solo Competition on this program. Don’t miss the concert that many w ill speak about for quite some time to come!
