The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is made up of highly qualified volunteer (unpaid) musicians who are chosen through a two-step audition process.

The first round is a self-taped video which is submitted online and reviewed by a committee of current players.

The second round is an in-person performance of the same materials for the Music Director and a committee of current players.

Live auditions will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2025 and Monday, December 8, 2025.

Current Openings

Live auditions will be held on May 18 and December 8, 2025. These positions are open until filled.

  • Second Trombone
  • Principal Percussion/Assoc. Principal Timpani
  • Section Violin
  • Section Cello
  • Oboe – Section, Optional English horn
  • Bassoon III/Contrabassoon

Videos will be accepted for substitute positions in all other sections
