The Bloomington Symphony opens its 63rd concert season with the excitement you are accustomed to, starting with a solo appearance by our concertmaster, Michael Sutton, who will play the beloved and heralded Concerto for Violin in E Minor by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Bookending this audience favorite is the world premiere of Neptunian Shores from Minnesota native Russell Holsapple, and the sparkling Suite No. 2 from the ballet Daphnis and Chloé by Maurice Ravel, which features outstanding orchestral solos and stunning section playing. Maestro Laureano will share insights about Ravel’s gift for orchestration before launching into a performance of the entire work.
