The BSO tackles the challenge of telling a fictional story of bureaucratic parody that is two centuries old, and bringing it to life in the form of the Suite from the film Lieutenant Kijé by Sergei Prokofiev. After intermission we will probe the riddle left to us by Sir Edward Elgar in his famous Enigma Variations, complemented by the theatrical talents of Minneapolis-based actor and director Gary Briggle as Sir Edward. We will also feature our concertmaster Michael Sutton in a performance of the Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Camille Saint-Saëns.

The Program

Sergei Prokofiev – Suite from Lieutenant Kijé

Camille Saint-Saëns – Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso

Edward Elgar – Variations on an Original Theme (Enigma), Op. 36
