The BSO has long given exposure to the composers of tomorrow, along with a look at the great composers of yesterday and their beginnings. This concert showcases the talents of emerging composer Grant Luhmann in a world premiere performance of his Flute Concerto with a new talent, Karen Baumgartner, as soloist. Framing this new work is An Outdoor Overture of Aaron Copland, which was written for the brilliant students at New York City’s High School of Music and Art in 1935 and, after intermission, the First Symphony of the legendary Dimitri Shostakovitch.
