For the last few years, the BSO has committed to celebrating American composers as much as we can. In this concert we expand that to include the music of North America and Mexican composer Arturo Marquéz with our premiere performance of the seductive and rhythmic Danzon No. 2. We’re also pleased to bring back pianist Clare Longendyke to play George Gershwin’s classic Rhapsody in Blue. The BSO will wrap up this concert with the influential and stunning Symphony No. 2 by Howard Hanson also known as “The Romantic.” In this 1930 work you will hear music that later influenced composer John Williams.
