Catherine Carson, Violin – Winner of the MNSOTA Mary West Solo Competition

Catherine Carson, Violin

All musicians have a piece of music that had a profound effect on their musical development. Music director Manny Laureano has chosen such a work, the Second Symphony of Johannes Brahms in D major. Also, the BSO will celebrate the wonderfully raucous Roman Carnival of Berlioz as our curtain raiser. This concert will also be our opportunity to serve as accompanying orchestra for this year’s MNSOTA Mary West Solo Competition winner, Catherine Carson, performing the third movement of Camille Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto No. 3.

The Program

Hector Berlioz – Roman Carnival Overture

Camille Saint-Saens – III. Molto modersato e maestoso from Violin Concerto No. 3

Johannes Brahms – Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73
