Believe it or not, there once was a time when there were no such things as movies! But people had such vivid imaginations that literature and music were grand influences to invoke the theater of the mind. Enter Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, Bavarian Richard Strauss, and the Italian Ottorino Respighi, all of whom offer us music so vivid that their mental images become our own. From a beautiful black swan, to a glimpse of Heaven’s gates, and to returning Roman soldiers traveling via the Appian Way. We will also feature Emily Saathoff, winner of MNSOTA’s Mary West Solo Competition to round out the concert. So find a seat on the aisle, put on your 3D glasses, and settle in for an afternoon of thoughtful music-making as the BSO plays its final concert of the 2013-14 season!
